Birthday T-shirts 2024

For Cltn

I once again made t-shirts for all the grandkids for their birthdays.  For some reason I forgot to take photos of the two oldest kids' t-shirts so all I have is a picture of the fabric.  For Cltn, I found a cool glow in the dark space fabric, for Miss M I bought a fabric with unicorns and sparkles.  For baseball obsessed MTB I found a baseball print and for SEB I bought a fun dinosaur print.  For GJB I used a fabric in my stash, a plain heathered grey and did a cement truck appliqué from Designs by JuJu.

Off The Rails

Hiking at Lake Carina

Well I don't have any sewing news to share this week.  In fact I shouldn't even be writing this blog today as I was supposed to be in Poland.  Last week my husband took himself to the ER on Tuesday because he just wasn't feeling right.  The next day they did an angiogram and placed four stents.  He was released on Friday and we were supposed to fly out on Sunday. The doc said no way.  So now I am home and just trying to catch up on stuff from last week.

He can do light activity so we did a 1 mile hike with the grandkids on Sunday. His internist gave him the okay to do a little travel as long as he watches for bleeding and takes it easy.  We plan on going to Fairfield Glade at the end of this week and just resting and do some small hikes.  Very disappointed about our trip to Poland but at least he is okay and glad nothing worse happened.

Striped Roman Shade

Striped shade for over the kitchen sink

A while back I made this flat Roman shade for a client.  She provided the fabric.  This was a working shade over her kitchen sink.  Mostly it would be open but sometimes she wanted to have privacy.  We went with the flat shade as it would be mostly pulled up.

Back of operational shade

I used a bead chain operated system and ring locks.  There is a weight bar pocket sewn in the back to provide side to side stability and weight for the operation of the system.

Ring locks from the front

Ring locks sewn in place

I placed the rings even with the bottom of the set of stripes on every other row.  This kept it within the less than 8" spacing required and also provided for a pleasing pleat to pattern look.

Mitered corner

To keep it all neat, I did a mitered corner at the bottom and the lining tucks into the side and bottom hems to reduce the bulk.

Faux shade

A few months later she asked me to make a matching faux shade for the butler's pantry next to the kitchen.  I constructed it the exact same way but without an operating system.  I just used orbs at the bottom to keep it pulled up and then stapled the cords to the mounting board.
